Replacing lost share certificate

This is my last attempt at sorting this out after 11 years and an absurd amount of money.
Eleven years ago Cable & Wireless Communications plc split between Cable & Wireless plc and NTL and I never received the NTL certificate for 22 NTL Common Stock.
I have spent 11 years, fees on a notary, paid to raise a US$ cheque for the replacement certificate, numerous phone calls, letters etc. most of which were ignored, especially my expensive affidavit!
I now believe that NTL is part of the Virgin empire - is that correct, and if so, which part? (Yes I wrote to them but no reply.)
The Bank of New York tell me that Continental Stock Transfer & Trust company is responsible but, guess what, Continental say that the Bank of New York is resonsible.
In short, are 22 NTL Common Stock worth anything in terms of the Virgin empire?
I promise myself that if no-one on the forum can help me I will destroy the huge file of paperwork, throw no more money after bad and get out in the sunshine..

Who is Virgin Media's transfer agent for its common stock?
Computershare acts as transfer agent and registrar for shares traded on NASDAQ. Computershare also acts as transfer agent and registrar for the depository interests traded on the London Stock Exchange. As transfer agent they are available to assist with the replacement of lost, stolen, or destroyed certificates as well as changes of address or certificate holder information.0 -

I don't usually accept failure but need to get a life, so following your advice - file shredded! Thanks for your time.
Dammit, for purely sentimental reasons I would have given you a grand or two for it.0 -
Cable & Wireless Communications didn't split into Cable & Wireless Plc & NTL.... Rather Cable & Wirleless Plc sold Cable & Wireless Comms to NTL
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/403884.stm
It was therefore Cable & Wireless Plc that got the shares rather than you.
You'll see in the link below where someone from TMF has posted some details from the C&W accounts where it comments on the disposal and the following disposal of some of the shareholding.

So the answer appears to be that you've held the shares all along (via your shares in C&W)0
