Third Party Car Insurance - would you go for it in my situation?

Hi all

As much as I love my car, it's a bit of an old banger and has a market value of around £300.

In the past when it has come to renewal, I've found Comp insurance to be not much more than the other options (and sometimes even less), so I've always gone with that. This year however, my best fully comp quote is coming in at around £250. A quick look on a comparison site is showing that I could get Third Party only at around £150.

I'm no expert when it comes to insurance and wondered if anyone could offer any thoughts on whether they think it would be worth going for the Third Party quote and saving around £100?

Many thanks

Max

I would go for TP / TPFT on a vehicle valued at £300. If you do have a bump it's probably (definitely) going to be a write of, by time you would pay any excess it really isn't worth it.
Can I find out my credit score?
You do not have a single credit score or rating. Different organisations take different information into account when working out your credit score and may have different scores for different products. (Kindly from Experian)

There are less firms willing to quote TP/TPFT than FC and I've found in the past that FC with the biggest excess available is often the cheapest.

Try comprehensive with a large excess
  • Thanks for the replies.

With regard FC and a larger excess, so far it has not been cost effective. For some reason, excesses above £350 put the premium higher....
