First time car insurance renewal

Hi all,

I'm just coming to the end of my first year as a driver, so it's time for renewing the car insurance.

I signed up with Quotemehappy last year, as it was comfortably the cheapest option (despite being £2,160). This year, the renewal price they are quoting is £2,030, yet when I enter my details through a price comparison site, the cheapest option again is Quotemehappy, but the price they are quoting is £834.

I've edited a few details, which has got the price down to £2,014 on Quotemehappy's website - but how would I go about getting this down to £834? Do I need to cancel my policy, then sign up to them again? Would that mean I lose my 1 year NCB? If I cancel my policy I obviously have no cover until I sign up again... Sorry for asking all this, the whole thing is all rather new to me!

I know these companies rely on people being too lazy to look around for better options, but a price difference of £1200 seems absolutely ridiculous to me.

Thanks for any help!

Is there not another company that comes in close to the £834 price? It might be less hassle to just take the next cheapest quote.
  • Thanks for the response.

Next cheapest is around the £1400/£1500 mark. Not an ideal jump in price, which is why I was hoping to get that quotemehappy price down - but if moving to a new company ends up being my only option, then I'll just have to bite the bullet I guess!

Try clearing your cookies before running a brand new quote through on quotemehappys website.

Try adding a partner or parent as a named driver (Not main driver) as this can sometimes get you a fair discount. If you go ahead make sure you find out if they have any claims or convictions
  • I just cleared cookies and ran a new quote through Quotemehappy's website as a new user and it came to £917, which is acceptable. I just don't understand why the renewal price, even with my changes is coming to over £2,000.

Am I allowed to sign up with this £917 quote even though I'm already registered with them?

Also, unfortunately neither of my parents have ever driven in their lives so the named driver route isnt an option for me.

    Thanks again.

My guess is its not the same cover, And the price could change one you choose them.

Be very very careful. You dont want to pay cancellation charges.
