EDF Blue + Price promise 2014
I am wondering why EDF have reduced the electricity cost on this scheme by so much compared with the price fix March 2014 scheme that I signed up to last year:(
Electricity price on their new scheme appears to be (inclusive of VAT):
14.70 p per day (£53.66 per year) standing charge
12.852 p per Kwh
I am paying:
23.51 p per day (£85.81 per year) standing charge
13.314 p per Kwh
I know it is always a chance when you sign up to a fixed rate scheme, but I do think the drop in the daily standing charge is quite considerable.

Longer fixes (which it was when you signed up) typically cost more than the shorter term ones, but that is quite a lot.
It looks like EDF are trying (and succeeding) to win customers over with a very attractive fix at the moment, especially as price increases are starting to filter through for the winter....
What other business states that demand is likely to be high in the near future, so we're having to increase prices?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. I was on exactly the same tariff as yourself and duly swapped to the blue offer. The good thing is they allow you to leave with no penalty if you find another cheaper tariff and also no penalty for swapping to the blue in the first instance.

The only thing is that the gas is slightly more expensive on the Blue tariff.
Having worked it all out, the tariff I am on is only about £16 more per annum so not really worth changing.
However, it is good to know that EDF will allow a switch to another tariff without penalty.Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0 -

I'm tempted but I have got so confused over prices and tariff's I'll stay with Npower for the minute.
I nearly went with EDF right at the start but with NPower they have promised me £100 annually if I stay with them and £45 for doing everything online so that is a bit like getting some of the standard charge back at the end of the year...
My tariff is fixed until October 2013...
You Pay:
23.51 p per day (£85.81 per year) standing charge
13.314 p per Kwh(electric)
I pay(or will be)
33.91p(Including VAT) per day(Is that around £128 per year?) Standing Charge. Not so good in comparison
10.143p per Kwh(Electric)
My gas standing charge is high(or will be)
42.84p(including VAT) per day (approx £150 per year?)standing charge
3.327p per Kwh(Gas)
So there is a slight reduction on the actual price of what you use.
But as I try not to use the gas much and use more electric this isn't very good I suppose.
I really will have to take another look at what is on offer later on so EDF really do seem to have been the best all along but I have messed myself and the utility companies around so much and even been caught between suppliers making cancelling difficult. As I say getting some discount will help a little. But if I stop using the gas or rarely use it I am paying £150 for nothing...and approx £280 just for the meters. That's almost 77p a day. But take off the annual discount and it's like you are only paying 37p a day for both meters. Approx £10 per month. So just maybe I can keep the overal cost down for the energy used.
I still hope to keep the cost down even in winter...
Then again if the gas is more expensive with EDF perhaps it all irons out in the end...I was on exactly the same tariff as yourself and duly swapped to the blue offer. The good thing is they allow you to leave with no penalty if you find another cheaper tariff and also no penalty for swapping to the blue in the first instance.

I think I can leave my fixed tariff with NPower with no penalty too but
