Mobile number & junk

We all get fed up with 'junk' calls and wonder how the caller obtained your number.
I had a junk text from ''Optical Express'' and I am now getting more then fed up.
1. Can I insist they tell me where they got the number from and
2. To stop the texts I have to text 'stop' to a number code which I am charged normal text rates for.
So now not only am I mad about more 'junk texts' but I have to pay to stop them. (Its not the 10p cost its the whole principle) What can I do / who to talk to in order to raise this issue of a totally unfair money making scam.

I hate them!
With physical callers, one successful strategy is to start actually talking with them, asking personal questions such as the colour of their eyes, what shirts they usually wear, etc. Seriously, it is hilarious how shocked they get ( as if they are not intruding the privacy of yours by calling your personal tel.)... then your number disappears from their database, because it is a bother to call you.
an alternative technique is to put them on hold, saying, " just a second, I am about to speak with you"... and make tham wait. With automated calls it is worse... nothing helps.
If I were you, I would get a new sim for £5 and only give your number to your real friends. Let the coldcallers ring another number...
I know, it is very inconvenient.
Prevention is the best... you must not give your mobile to any business advisers, cites, etc...say you do not have one at all.0 -
Unfortunately, attempts to find where they got the number did not work out for us, at least. Too time consuming. Other posters may help.0

They may not have got your number from anywhere.
Its not hard to generate a programme that would give you all the combinations of 11 digits that start with 07 and just take a chunk from that and start spamming them."If you no longer go for a gap, you are no longer a racing driver" - Ayrton Senna0 -
Do you have a smart phone? If so download one of the many apps that blocks these0
