Roof/guttering

Quick question. Would I be right in expecting a 'roofer' to also maintain/repair.replace guttering, or is it something I need a separate tradesman for? Most of the 'roofers' I have looked at the details for don't seem to mention guttering/bargeboards etc.

As i remember my bloke did check all the guttering for me while he was up there. I don't think it needed doing in my case but it is certainly worth asking. Not sure what you mean by bargeboards.
  • guttering & roof lead work was always a plumbers job, however most roofers do the lead work themselves & you will prob find most plumbers can't be bothered to get involved in guttering, some still will, a good handiman is prob your best bet.
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.

I'm in the process of getting quotes for replacement guttering, at the moment I've got one handyman, one carpenter and one roofer doing quotes in the coming week as nobody else was interested in replacing gutters if the fascias and soffits weren't also being done.

If you ask for references where they've done gutter work in the area you could make sure the homeowner was happy with their standard of work.

You need to make sure they fit the gutters properly, i.e. correct gradient for water to flow away, adequate support for the downpipes to stop them slipping down over time and disconnecting at the top & a good number of brackets so the gutters can support the additional weight of snow/ice on the roof in case we have further severe winters.

There's a PDF file on Floplast's website which may be helpful: http://www.floplast.co.uk/uploads/downloads/Rainwater%20Installation%20Guide.pdf

If your "roofer" can't do the gutters and fashias, then you need a new roofer.

If you are talking about replacement, then it's a pvcu specialist unless it's special.;)
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

In my experience, it's the PVC doors/windows/fascias/etc. people who seem to do guttering.

I guess it's all plastic these days, and they prefer to replace the gutters while doing fascias.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

Mine was done by the bloke who painted the exterior pipes and wood. He cleaned out and repaired the guttering while preparing to paint.
