Clutch Slipping

2»

Comments

  • Gentle acceleration is the key, it's torque that brakes things so opening the taps is a nono.

I'm still on my original clutch at 135k. Don't ride the clutch. Blip the throttle / rev match on the downshift.

Oh, and avoid traffic light grand-prix!

Reverse being difficult to select is an unrelated problem

    Correct.

If anything, a slipping clutch would make engaging gears easier.

It's dragging clutches that make gears difficult to engage.

    Yes. Your point?

Clutch replacement on a car with a dual mass flywheel is a lot more expensive than on one without, generally

Why is that? If they're not touching the DMF it makes no difference!

Just updating the thread I started.

Car is now fixed. The dealer got it fixed at the garage he uses.

Both clutch and DMF were changed.

I asked for a copy of the invoice so that I can prove that clutch/DMF has been changed at a certain mileage if I sell it on.

The invoice had labour for £200 and the parts didn't have costs listed.

Thanks for everyone who replied to my OP.

The clutch on my car is slipping and it's going into the garage at the end of the week to get replaced. The problem is showing itself by reverse being difficult to select and when accelerating the rev counter quickly spins round, then down, then power increases.

I need to use the car this week before the garage visit and will probably do about 120 miles total.

I'm looking for some tips on how to reduce stress on it during this time. The obvious ones I think are making sure I don't ride the clutch and not accelerating too hard.

    Any others gratefully received!

I've had it back from Garage about 3 weeks. Luckily it didn't fail before garage visit but I can't recall how many miles I did in that time. I did drive it very gently though!

  • I did about 2k miles in my diesel Mondeo after I was told the DMF was failing before it actually became undriveable.

    Not recommended though!
