Petrol question re lawnmower

Your local tip may have a place to dispose of small quantities otherwise have a chat with a local garage.How can I get rid of the old petrol?

Opened it this morning and petrol looked/smelt ok so took a risk and filled up mower, worked fine with no issues

You can mix new and old petrol. If you stick, say 20% old in with new, and the mower is fine, try using 40%. If there's any sign that it is slow to start, smoky, or running slowly, increase the amount of new petrol. That way you can use up the older fuel and not dispose of it. Yes, petrol does go off, particularly if the cap doesn't seal well to the can. However, if well-stored, it should be fine. Using it up this way should save you a few pence, and the fuel is probably fine.
Frankly I agree with those who point out a car engine is more expensive than a mower engine: I wouldn't put (much) old fuel in my car tank at all.0
