    Tap walls with your knuckles and listen for hollow sounds. It should be obvious if it's plasterboard or just plastered brick/breezeblock with possible some loose plaster cavity (not too serious that).

    When we had our kitchen done, the tradesmen came from Wales to Reading every day. They were excellent it has to be said.
