They have given me £75 compensation and a promise to pay any charges I incur. They have removed the default on my Santander credit card...
But they haven't removed, and can't remove, default markers placed on your file by the other DD originators, most notably BoS (and your mortgage provider?).

Did you ask them for a letter to forward to your other DD originators, as I advised earlier in the thread?

Call Santander immediately and refuse the £75. If they've already put it in your account [STRIKE]ask[/STRIKE] tell them to remove it again. This issue has a long way to run yet, so hold out on a 'settlement' until you know the extent of the damage.

I hate to advise people to ask for more, but £75 is a cheap 1st shot.
Far more life in recompense for the issue caused. ;)

This has muddied the waters even more,

In your first post you said that you transferred your existing Santander current account to a 123 current account.

But then you say that the switching team are involved?!

The switching team are there to handle bank-to-bank switches and have absolutely NOTHING to do with in-bank 123 "upgrades"

Upgrades retain the existing sort code and account number and is literally a 2 minute click of a button job.

I've done 150+ and never had this problem.

Did you try to do this change over in branch online or via the phone?

Either that or they simply are not telling the truth.

Sounds quite plausible to me that someone isn't telling the truth
  • ses6jwg, I used the wrong word. My notes say that Customer Service person stated that the 'openings' team in Bolton cancelled my DDs. I asked for my change via a button on my online banking.

Yorkshire Boy, I did ask for a letter as you suggested, they say it will be here in 7-10 days! Very helpful, not.

Dalesrider and Yorkshire Boy I'm going to refuse the £75 in light of being told lies/ misinformation about the 'reinstated' status of my DDs- thanks. I told our mobile provider on Sunday they could 'rerequest' the DD as informed by Santander...this was clearly nonsense as the bill is still unpaid and OHs phone was cut off this morning!

Mortgage was paid earlier in the month thank goodness. Tomorrow the card payment I made on my arrears at BoS should be cleared which means I can ring to talk about the status of my account.

Many thanks for your ideas and support.
  • what a mess i am with santander....and i dont like them but coming out of an IVA got no choice at the moment...damn!!!!
