My NEC internal DVD Re Writer has stopped burning to DVD discs. It will still burn CDR's but not DVD-R 's. It has work fine for a couple of years. Is it possible for it to loose the ability to burn DVD's but still burn CDR's? I have tried re installing drive amd tried several different software burners.

This happened to a Philips DVD drive I had, spent ages fidlling with drivers, flashing the bios, etc. In the end I gave up after I found the reciept and founs that it was just inside its warranty.
Took it back to PC world who exchanged it no hassle (theres a 1st:D ) but when I installed my nice new drive but it was doing the same thing
Somehow, I got it working, think it may have been something to do with the DVD burning software that I had just installed a new version of rather than the drive failing. Once I removed the software, the new drive worked fine.
Best advice I could give is think back to what you have done to your PC since it last worked and try uninstalling that relates to the DVD drive, rebooting and give a try.0 -

Problem could be, the rubber bands in the unit have [SIZE=-1]stretched.

Just to rule out the obvious - you're still using the same DVDs you always did?
One of my friends was about to buy a new drive until I pointed out the difference between DVD-R and DVD+R....0
