Do you mean her son receives the high rate of the mobility component of DLA? DLA has two parts - care and mobility. If someone has high rate mobility, they can give that up in return for a mobility car, although they will never own the car. You do get full services, new tyres, insurnace, RAC membership, etc thoguh.
If the child is too young to drive, a parent can get the car for the child's use, even if one or both parents are working. The car should primarily be used for the benefit of the child though.0 -
To be fair, Greg, I also have a mobility car - or rather, my son has a mobility car that I drive for him. He is only 14, but will never learn to drive as he has, among other disabilities, learning difficulties. He is also a wheelchair user, and having the car means that I can get him around easily. Public transport, on the occasions we use it, is a nightmare!
I chose a Nissan Note because it is a car with a good sized boot for my son's wheelchair and a bit of shopping as well. It's a nice car to drive - maybe not very fancy compared to some cars, but it suits us. It's the second Note that we have had, and when renewal time comes around, I haven't any plans to change it for a different make or model.0
