Halifax Switching Service Question?

Hi,
I have just switched from RBoS to Halifax using the online switching service. It is completed and all DDs and SOs have been transferred over. My bank balance has not been transferred and my old RBoS current account is still accessible via online banking.
I was expecting my old RBoS account to be closed down and my balance to be transferred. How does this work? I need to decide which account to get my salary paid into.
Thanks and apologies if it is a silly question
Michael

The transfer process only transfers DDs and SOs.
You will need to transfer the balance across yourself - can be done on RBS internet/telephone banking - and then contact RBS to close the account.
(Although it can be useful to have a spare bank account as a backup - what if Halifax had a similar problem to RBS/Natwest's recent disruption).0 -
If you still get your salary into your RBS account, it's just as well Halifax did not close the RBS account, it seems!
You have to decide where you want your salary to be paid into, and you have to tell your employer.
You can transfer any money from your RBS to your Halifax online within seconds, using Faster Payment.
If you want to close down your RBS account after a while, ask RBS to do that. It is not compulsory to only have one current account, so you could keep it open. Many people here have half a dozen or more current accounts (though I admit, there's not much reason to keep an RBS account).0 -
They will only close your RBS account if you requested them to do so. Otherwise it remains open and it is upto yourself if you wish to close it, easiest way would be to transfer the bulk of the money across online via a faster payment and then contact RBS to close the account.0

Strange how LTSB will tell your employer about new bank details but Halifax won't - I thought they used the same back office procedures?0

Halifax do and can switch credits e.g. Salary payments, pensions.
The only time they don't is when the customer specifies them not to do so or if the organisation is still stuck in the dark ages and specifies the instruction has to come direct from the person and not the bank.0 -
The person signs the authority at the bank before being sent to the employer - so it is always customer authorised.Halifax do and can switch credits e.g. Salary payments, pensions.

But then so is the transfer of the direct debits, the person signs the authority at the bank before it is sent to their current bank!0
