bank is closing my account

I've a joint account with my husband in natwest. For the last couple months things are not good with him ( a lot of unpaid dd). He is self employed. Today we receive letters from natwest that they will not provide banking service for us anymore and will close our account in 2 months.

We will need to open another account and I'm planning to open my own instead of a joint one this time. But will I be able to? My credit rating must have been affected by my husband's. We also have mortgage with them, what will happen to it?
We prioritise the mortgage and never missed a payment.

I work and paid a fixed income every month.

TIA.

what do your credit files say... that is what other banks will see.
  • I would ask the bank how they expect you to furnish the mortgage payments to them if they close your account?

    Their answer will be:

By DD from another bank, or by cash/cheque in branch.

    Just open an account elsewhere.

Apply for a Basic Bank account in your own name.

    Info here...https://www.moneyadviceservice.org.uk/en/articles/basic-bank-accounts

Natwest have perfectly adequate Basic account but take advice on "set off".

If they have sent you a closure letter they won't open even a basic account so you will need to go to another bank

As long as you don't have any CIFAS (Fraud markers) you can open as many as you like.

Also consider the Halifax Easycash account. Can be applied for online. Go to Bank Accounts, then Other bank accounts.
