Last minute skiing?

What are the chances of a last minute ski trip for a family of 4 for less than £1000? Leaving from the South West or thereabouts this weekend.

Slim to none?

Thanks but every deal there adds under-occupancy charges, that bump up the price significantly, as they only seem to accommodate parties of 6 and upwards.

Last time I looked at the Swiss (airline) website they had flights from London to Basel for less than fifty pounds! Return, including all taxes and charges.

Accomodation: rent a place from Interhome. We went in February (four of us) and got an aparment for about 185 pounds for the whole week, in Switzerland but not a ski resort.

Then you have the costs of ski lifts, equipment and so forth -- sorry I can't help with that.

  • https://www.balkanholidays.com - we're just back from a week in bansko bulgaria and it was immense! first time we'd been and the resort, people, conditions and most importantly holiday and in-resort prices were fantastic! They have good offers on flights departing this weekend - i would definately check them out - most hotels are half board (some B&B) which saves you some cash there - we stayed in hotel Strazhite (4* HB) which is only 250m away from the gondola station - most of the other hotels are between 250-500m away from the gondola, but all hotels run a free shuttle bus service. you didn't say if you required board/ski hire when you went, but that again is very inexpensive - if you take hire with tuition, you get the whole package of Ski pass, 4hr tuition per day + ski/board & boots hire for the week for about £120.

Our holiday for 2 cost £800 all in (including lift pass and board carriage on the plane and storage at the resort at a 4* HB hotel) and we only spent £175 in resort - that included boarding gloves & sunglasses for ourselves and gifts for the family + food and drinks for the week. Although the food in the hotel was great (cooked breakfasts available along with fruit, cereal and continental - varied and extensive choise for evening meal) we ate out a few nights s(i reccommend the traditional shashlik kebabs from the steakhouse maxaha on the main street across from the hotel!).

The conditions were great too - they have a very long season - up till May. When we were there ast week, it snowed for heavily 3 days, and more snow was forecast, so the conditions are still excellent and the full mountain is open and all runs packed and pisted - good off piste too if you like that! although it snowed, it wasn't cold, visibility was good and it wasn't enough snow to keep you off the slopes!

I had a quick look on their site and their prices are still great - if you want the hol for under £1000 for 4, you may have to drop down to a 3*, but IMO, the hotels are rated 1 higher than what they would be here so 3* is still a high quality hotel.

sorry for rambling a bit, but I had a fantastic holiday in Bansko (i've been to resorts in france and andorra too) and I would rate this up with them.

hope you find something and manage to get away this weekend!

    Happy skiiing!
    vik x

PS - book it over the internet if you can - we saved over £400 than going to the travel agents for exactly the same holiday (we checked it out in thompson & Lunn Poly stores in glasgow!)
