Aga installation highway robbery!

Just been quoted £1000 to fit our second hand aga. Hubby is removing the old one and getting the site ready so this quote is for fitting and replacing seals as necessary. I think it's extortion. Any thoughts or experiences please?

I am presuming its being done by a HETAS registered fitter ? if not then it needs to be or at the very least you need to get the council building inspector in when it has been fitted.
Solid fuel appliances when moved and reinstalled / installed now need to be signed off under Part J building regs.
As for price, AGA's have always been expensive appliances to repair / replace parts, and if its being done correctly then I would have expected between £800 - £1K for reinstallation and repairs. Stove installations are roughly the same.
One thing you also need to get done is sweep your chimney if it has not been done already, also ask the sweep on the condition of the chimney as if its an old house the chimney may need relining. You may click thanks if you found my advice useful0 -
Regularly advertised on ebay for about £300 if I remember rightly.

Cheers for the responses guys. The aga is gas so gas safe/corgi engineers were what I was looking at, and I expected a quote much less than the one given. When we were still looking for a newer aga, one chap offered to collect one, remove old and fit newer for less than £1000. I think the local fitter just didn't want the job so quoted high. Struggling to find anyone else.

You're right for gas, you don't need HETAS.
Keep shopping around.
Where abouts are you?0 -
Cumbria. Have found one engineer on ebay and sent him a message. The only localish guy is out of commission due to heart surgery. I dread getting people I don't know anything about if you see what I mean.I refuse to have a battle of wits with an unarmed opponent. :rotfl:0
