Details on PCN letter are incorrect

Hi.

Have received a PCN with a photo showing driving in a bus lane. there are a number of irregularities on this:
1 - The letter states the road its on but I know that the one on the picture is not the 1 they have stated.
2 - the time stated on the letter was 10.57 but on the photo its 8.50.
3 - The letter also states it occurred on the 18 August 2012 but on the photo it shows 4 august 10 !

Would I be able to contest this due to the above inconsistancies?
Do they also need to notify you within a specific time frame?

Yes you can contest it. There is no requirement to notify a PCN within a fixed time like a FPN.

Yes you can contest it and will most likely get it either resent with corrections or cancelled

According to the experts on pepipo, minor inaccuracies do not invalidate PCNs.
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.
  • Work out where you were on 10.57 on 18th August 2012 then write to the issuing office telling them this cannot have been you or your car as you were elsewhere (Specify ) at the time . Tell them they must have a cloned car on their territory

Councils are not allowed to do that.

Wrong date - street names are not minor inaccuracies - they are a fatal flaw in the PCN, at appeal this will get cancelled.

I would suggest registering on pepipoo, then on this part of the forum post a new topic, you need to scan or photo BOTH sides of the PCN and if you can post pics of where you were caught.

As said though this one is an easy win, council will most likely reject your first appeal - they always do in the hope you'll cave in so it then goes to PATAS if you are in London or TPT if outside London.

Hi, I worked in The fixed Penalty Unit for a local constabulary 3 years ago. The inaccuracies you have mentioned will almost certainly get the fine cancelled. Just write back to them mentioning the inaccuracies you have detailed.
