Becoming named driver

Hi
I am due to change permanent employment as of next week and so lose my company car. I'm looking to be put onto my girlfriends car as a named driver (Won't use it a great deal as will be working out of the country). My question is, do I have to get insurance from my gf's insurers or can I get named driver insurance on a separate, cheaper policy?
We have called sheilas wheels who currently provide cover and they want nearly £200 to add me until April. Is this the only option other than my gf taking her insurance elsewhere?
Thanks

I'll only be working away mon-thurs each week so will use it a few times on the other days.
Guess we just pay up and see if the setup is cheaper when we renew in april?0 -
Taking her insurance elsewhere mid term could be costly.
Admin fees and things like breakdown and legal protection wont be refunded.
£200 willl sound cheap.
Dont forget she wont earn any no claims for not completing a full year.
If you take out your own policy it could be over £100 a month.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
