Hi,
I'm in the process of buying a house and I made a full electrical survey. It came with several code 1 ("need urgent attention") but the electrician has not provided me with any quote to fix them and is very vague about it ( I suspect for some political reason as he was recommended by the agent).
I would appreciate if anyone could give me an approximate range of price for fixing the following:
- fixing the socket in the kitchen which is wronly fitted into cooker circuit (by this I mean connecting it properly rather than disconnecting it).
- Adding RCD protection which we don't have (do we need to change the fuseboard?)
- do the main bonding (inexistant...)
- fixing spot light Ip rating in the bathroom.
Thank you!

You can't get a quote online, just a very loose estimate.
The sparky would have to see the job, see what lies beneath and fix it in accordance with regs,
If the existing guy isn't interested, find 1 who is, why start of with a guy who is vague to say the least, and possibly disinterested?
;)
From the clues you've given I would certainly say you need to change the consumer unit.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
A very loose estimate is indeed what I' m looking for.0

3 and 4 are definite must do's. 1 probably is too.

2 is optional. Although the lack of an RCD is [most probably] not to modern standards, if it was compliant at the time of original installation, then it does not need to be changed now
It is possible to fit an RCD without changing the fuseboard and this is what I would probably d, although you could expect to encounter a lot of resistance from the spark.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. I intend to do all these jobs ( by a spark).
I just want to negotiate these cost with the seller because I was not aware of these issues.
I just don't want to come up with a completely inaccurate figure.
This is terrace victorian house.
So here is what is in my mind, having absolutely 0 experience, assuming I'm a usual house:
1- 50 to 2000£ (you see, no idea...)
2 -200 to 600£ (changing the main unit)
3- 50 to 400£ (it is just a cable I guess)
4 50 to 2000 £ (you see, no idea...)
Feel free to correct me or share experience!0 -

You can have a socket on a cooker circuit - if the cooker isnt electric then all is needed is to down rate the fuse / mcb size £30. If the cooker is electric then the socket should be removed and a proper cooker control switch put in place £30
New consumer unit if needed £500, RCD not needed if original installation was compliant, RCD protection now would just be a recommendation for an existing installation.
Bonding £80 - £120 depending upon runs and access
Again with this not needed if original installation was compliant, if you were to have it done depends really on what type of fitting you want so anything between £40 - £?????You may click thanks if you found my advice useful0 -
And again, when you're talking about a new consumer unit you may want something with dual RCD - and will ten way be enough maybe you will need more... all to be discussed with your sparks.
Also you'd pay more for a decent make like MK, Hagar, Volex than a cheapo Chinese piece of...plastic. I wouldn't scrimp on something like this...
