Of course it's not money saving, but I love the smell and feel of a new car. You know that no one has smoked or puked in it, you know that it will be properly looked after, you don't have to worry about MOTs for 3 years and, if you buy Hyundai/Kia, you get long warranties. New every time.
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.

You can still buy new things if you can afford it. The key is to save money on the price of that new thing. It's a bit like those pointless surveys/PR announcements that you can save £xxx per annum if you give up shop bought coffee. Who cares? I can afford £xxx on coffee and can spend my money on whatever I like!:p:D

  • I'd never buy new. I bought my current car at 90k, it has now done over 135k. The car cost £3k when i bought it 5 years ago, i could sell it for roughly £2k now.

You get so much more for your money on the secondhand market, just beward the lemons and chose wisely!

So by that reasoning you woild never take a luxury holiday (I am not talking about week in Majorca, a proper holiday) because at the end all you have is memories and you have lost all the money it cost you

Or buy a new suit? Or a new television?

In fact there are very few consumer products that do not depreciate from the day you buy them.

and money can be saved in new cars why is it you believe this section of the site is for used vehicles only when people want to buy brand new.

like has been said, move from dealer to dealer to get the best deals on the RRP and extras pitting them off eachother. OP wants to buy outright wich is fine no finance deals to contend with but smacks you in the backside getting a dealer to manouvor on things.

It's a waste because you can get the same product (maybe only a couple of years old) for a greatly reduced price. Next to no downsides and some other schmuck has already taken the first big depreciation hit.

I don't understand the attraction of a new car - let somebody else run it in!

Are there any models coming to end of their lifecycle within the next 12 months which may have similar deals?

I have no idea -- but the next time one turns up I may well jump on it :D It depends how cheap they go!

Certainly would rather that than the 3-4 year old Mondeo diesels with 80,000 miles on the clock selling for SEVEN GRAND at the main stealer at the moment. What planet exactly are the buyers of such cars living on? :rotfl:

Who exactly would run the cars in if nobody bought them new??!

When I buy a car I want the spec I want. No w@nky sat nav, no parking sensors. Heated leather seats, a good stereo system, high bhp etc. I would probably never find what I want on the second hand market. And as we keep our cars until they die, it doesn't really matter how much they depreciate. We've never paid interest, I always haggle at least 20% off list price plus some extras.

And I don't want 2 years worth of somebody else's bogeys and pasty crumbs in my car!!!

I think you should buy new. If you plan to sell in 3 years time it would be a silly idea, but as you want to keep it for the long term, the fact you'll be paying a bit more compared to a pre-reg one doesn't really matter - you'll just end up wishing it had some features you could have got if you'd bought new instead. Growing up my Dad was always getting the car he didn't want because there was a cheaper one on the garage forecourt and each time it peed him off so much he'd be back within a year to get the one he wanted in the first place!
