MOT retest fee
Recently had my car MOT'd and re-tested , £45 for the MOT and £20 re-test fee ( no council MOT depots around ) anyway I paid cash for both tests and was given a receipt for the £45 but not for the £20.
As it is not compulsory to charge a retest fee ( so no further payment to VOSA needed ? ) do you think the tester/garage owner will simply pocket the £20 and not put it through the books ?
Retest took less than five minutes , the reasons for failure were genuine reasons on my car but I wouldn't mind betting a lot of places fail at many testing stations for borderline faults simply so they can charge another £XX for a few minutes work , at least the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency have seen sense and scrapped the full test requirement they had on failures last year, now if only they would limit a retest fee to be proportional to the amount charged for the full test e.g. current test is £50.35 based on 1 hours work involved , which is roughly 84 pence per minute , on the retest I was charged roughly £4 per minute, nice work if you can get it.

my local garage doesn't charge for a retest if they do any work or if it's done by a certain time , maybe the fee was just for labour ?0

I did all the repairs myself so no labour charges due , original test was 26th the retest was booked for today , three working days later.
It's my own fault as I should have asked first  , after I had booked the test I saw a sign for another local testing station only charging £30 and also found out there's a couple more nearby that don't charge for retests but I thought I would honour the appointment I made as I have used the same place for the last five years.0
