Best value all in one printer?

I'm looking for an all in one printer that's fairly cheap to buy, but also won't come with extortionate ink costs. What would people recommend?

How important is scan quality?
Will you need it for photos?
Do you want wireless?
Will you use genuine or compatible inks?0 -
Scan quality - not too important; won't be printing photos; wireless would be nice but I'm not too bothered really; happy to use compatible inks, but won't be buying them in bulk.0

One option

Check for better prices, especially for the inks
Epson printers usually have the better availability of compatible inks
This one has double sided printing

Here are the tech specs for both 435 and 438, seems the colour is the main difference

There are excellent mono laser all-in-one printers for £70-odd. I spent another £20 and got one with a sheet feeder and a particularly low per-print cost. Laser printers are fast, the ink won't run, they are cheap to operate, and you don't have to keep changing cartridges. May be an option?0

I'd say unless you specifically need colur, get a laser. Soooooo much cheaper to run. My little HP does thousands of pages for a 10 quid recycled cartridge.
Likewise, do you really need an all in one? The thing that puts me off them is if your printer breaks, you need to buy a new scanner as well. I've been running a basic Canon scanner for about 10 years and it just does the job, it's got a copy button on the front, so I can make a photocopy without messing about with the PC (though the only downside to separates is the PC needs to be turned on).Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?

Mrs V. prints and photocopies load of crudola. She has a Brother MFC235C which I bought because it has 4 separate ink cartridges so you only replace the one that is low and they are less than a quid each online. OK it' not the highest quality or fastest but it does the job it needs to.The man without a signature.0

Fast, cheap, sheet-feeder (for those days when you want to copy/scan a pile of stuff), still on my original 'starter' toner, so plenty in there for medium use, £36/2000 sheets replacement toner, basically £9/ream which is pretty keenly priced compared with inkjet0 -
