Hi,

Can anyone please advise whether it is advisable to be on the electoral roll for a certain time before applying for credit or it it just important that you are on it and not how long you have been?

Thanks.

The dates will show on the credit report, but I don't think it makes a huge impact - provided you're on the Electrol Roll that is the most important thing.

That would depend on how often your local authority updates it's register. I believe some do it monthly, others not so.

Hi, for sure most companies like to see you on the electoral role at your current address for 2 years and ideally 3 or more.

Not sure how important that is as otherwise it may be difficult to get credit if you've just moved house. As said above, I think it's more important that you're actually on it.
Most credit you apply for asks for previous adresses for the last 3 years anyway. My last 2 house moves were after 18 months and just under 3 years. Currently in my new house 6 months. In all that time I've never had issues with getting a mortgage, loans, or credit cards.

I did get myself on the electoral role as soon as I could though. My local council sent through a form about 4 months after we'd moved in, even though I'd done it myself a couple of months earlier. It did prompt a call to make sure I was on it though and I was told the form is sent out automatically.

yes, sorry, I meant they like to see you on the electoral role for 2-3 years at least, meaning that if you have only been on the electoral role for 2 years and no previous address or elctoral role history before this then you might have to provide additional info to support that you have actually lived in the uk for 3 years or more.
