feel like crying

Was shopping in farmfoods with dd2, 13 months in seat in the trolley and some person collided into us (they were going the wrong way round the store) we were stationary at the time, with me looking in a freezer. This caused dd2 to slip out of the chair and fall onto the floor. It happened so quickly that I didn't get to catch her. DD had a red mark on her head and the woman that crashed into us was apologetic.

Reported it to the manager(first aider) who filled out a form and advised us to take her to the hospital.

took her to the hospital and there wasn't a mark on her body, just a tiny graze on her head. Was given the head injuries leaflet and advise.

I am really upset and just can't stop thinking about what could of happened. I can't stop hugging dd2 and making a fuss of her

    *hugs*

These things happen and you can't help thinking "what if". Only natural for you to want to hug her.

Don't feel guilty and remember try not to worry too much as children are usually much more resilient than we think!

You are still in shock, don't worry. It is a nasty thing to happen but luckily DD2 is fine, children are much more resilient than we think. I should know... When DS was 5 months old, we both fell down full length of stairs and he bounced couple of steps like a ragdoll. Rushed him to our GP, DS absolutely fine but I was covered in bruises...

It was an accident and totally not yours or the womans fault. Your child is OK and has probably stopped thinking about the whole incident already.

What I want to know is how did she manage to slip out of the seat? I thought they had belts on them and a bit going between their legs?

    Hi alwaysonthego,

It's so uwful when a little one hurts themselves, but it was an accident, and she's fine. Just concentrate on the fact she's ok and nothing worse happened! But I know how you feel, I feel so guilty when DD hurts herself.

Sounds like you need a hug too *HUGS*

Children are definately more resilient than we give them credit for.... It is an awful thing to happen tho, and glad your LO is ok.. Tomorrow's another day, try not to worry too much, I know its not the same, but my LO (17 months) falls over at least once a day now, all part of lifes learning curve....

The ones in farm foods don't. dd does not fit in one of those baby seats and has to sit in the toddler seat. I will ensure that I will buy an harness so I can fasten her in. We have never had a problem before, so it is a warning to all parents with small children
  • if you buy reins would they go around the trolley somehow and hold her in? i haven't seen farmfoods trolley so i don't know what they're like, but it sounds as if a wriggling child having a tantrum could also slip out and bang their head?

going to hospital with a child is scary. my sister was upset after her baby had a fit, she couldn't stop thinking about what might have happened. baby was fine but it takes a while to get over the shock *HUGS*

Hi, sorry for your nasty experience. I had a couple of incidents when my children were younger that still make my blood run cold if I think about them.

I used to have a little cloth harness thing I kept in my bag for my dd. It wasn't reins and could be used with a dining chair so was quite good on holiday and I used to use it in supermarket trolleys too. I think the one I had was from great little trading company but they don't seem to do one now. There is one very similar on kiddicare:

  • mine is called a handbag highchair and was cheaper than the totseats in that link. i'll try to find it online. that's a great idea. they are just cotton so they take up next to no space in a bag or pocket, and they are so useful especially for snack time at toddler group - if baby is secure on the chair it means you can drink a cup of tea without spilling it on the baby.

    pocket highchair £12.99 from here:

I had reins that I clipped onto the back of the seat.

Once when I was shopping in Tesco - without my baby, thank god- it was a small store and I parked on the road. I took the trolley round to the car. The pavement must have slopped a bit as I let go of the trolley to open the boot and the trolley fell on its side into the road. As I say thank god my baby wasn't in the trolley.

These things happen - wait until she's older and falls out of a tree! MAybe have a cry and get it out of your system - you can't wrap them in cotton wool unfortunaetly.
