Virus & Firewall software for Windows ME

I've tried getting hold of zonealarm for my PC which I've restored back to Win Me, but it won't run. I've checked the Zonealarm site where it says they have stopped support for Win98 and Me.

Anyone got good firewall and anti-virus software for Windows Millenium Edition?

Try avast for AV

If you have a router, that is pretty good protection from the outside world getting in, so the need for a firewall is less important.

I'm not sure AVG will support windows ME as a lot of software wont run on ME as its a bit old now.

Maybe someone else can advise better, sorry !

AVG runs on 98SE so I would guess it will run on ME.

You could try Sygate for firewall:

AVG runs fine.

The newest version of zonealarm which will work on ME is their pre 6.5 series. I researched this carefully beforehand and downloaded version 6.1.744.001 from

It's about a 10.2Mb download.
