EDF standing charges

In recommending EDF's Blue tariff have you (moneysavingexpert.com) taken into account the daily standing charge of 0.36p which will be added to customers bills, or £131.40 pa.

That is a lot cheaper than many standing charges or first tier charges, 69p with Eon.

I'm not answering for moneysavingexpert.com but if you use a Consumer Focus accredited comparison website you will get an accurately calculated annual cost for a specified annual consumption regardless of tariff structure.

So in answer to your question, probably.

I did, when it calculated over all everything I could save.

Even with the standing charge I would be £193 better off, and that was before SSE added on their 9% in October...
  • Just switched to EDF Blue and got myself a 6% reduction in my annual bill. That's actually not a great deal of money because I don't use much gas/electricity but it's less than I was paying and given prices are likely to go up at least twice during the fixed period I'm happy.

I used a couple of comparison sites as suggested by MSE, and despite the standing charges which are included in the calculation, EDF Blue+ tariff came out as extremely competitive, especially considering the price is fixed for 2 winters (and I can switch for free anytime if something cheaper does happen to come along).

I suggest others check for themselves using their own figures on a comparison website. (as presumably the recomendation is based on national average consumption figures only)

My own spreadsheet came out with the same figures as the comparison sites, my actual bills are within a couple of pence of my spreadsheet bills. Even with a higher unit cost it is still cheaper than what I am paying now, you cannot simply take the unit costs as a guide to energy costs.
  • Thanks to everyone for your advise and feedback, I'll double check thru a comparison site using previous 12 months usage to be sure its the deal for me. Many thanks,
