Hi
I have only driven 2000 miles in 12 months (mainly short journeys), do I need to change the oil?
My book says 6000 miles or 12 months, but I have done way fewer.
Thanks

Yes; short running is far worse for a car.
Not many say 6,000 miles nowadays, what car is it?0 -
The manufacturer's instructions are to help you keep the car in tip-top condition. It is probably worth it this time as engine parts are precision cast, but still bed into one another in a new engine, so the oil will get dirty from that, maybe less of a big deal when the car is a few years old :-)0

That's the key word. Get it changed for peace of mind.
5t.What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -
Oil degrades over time, get it changed.0

Especially on an older engine with more particulate junk floating around, I'd say get it done.
Yearly oil changes are essential IMO.0 -
I always halve the mileage intervals specified by the manufacturer i.e. if it says 6,000, I'd change the oil and filter at 3,000. I feel that for the cost of an oil change it's false economy not to err well on the side of caution.
And on top of that, you are doing only short journeys. So yes, change it!Je suis Charlie.0 -
Change the oil AND the oil filter."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0
