Residing in Ireland but planning to return to UK - Should I get UK Life Insurance?

I'm currently working in Ireland and planning to return to UK in a year. I have a house in the UK.

I would like to take out 20 year Level Term Life Insurance to so that I have some financial protection in place for my family but I am thinking that if I am intending to return to UK in a year, then it would be better to take out a UK policy now. And also if anything did happen to me, then my family would most likely have to return to UK straight away anyway, so that is another reason to have a UK policy. Thats my thinking anyway.

Is a UK policy the right approach in taking out Life Insurance in my circumstances?

Are there any UK providers that will sell to me while I'm still residing in Ireland?

If your answer is no to either of the above 2 questions, can you suggest what I should do re Life Insurance instead.

  • To apply with a UK insurers the two things that you will fall down on are:

You will be asked to provide your full time address which they would expect to be in the UK

The application will ask 'Have you lived or travelled outside the Uk for more than 30 days in the last X years'

So on that basis you would not be eligible however there are International life companies which offer global cover ( for example to ex pats ) but premiums will be a bit higher.

Some are a little more lenient than that so it would be worth getting advice.
