Changing Flight details~Jet2~Beware!!

Options
Booked flights with Jet2 in June but had a shock when I rang to make an alteration to one of the flights. It was a simple (I thought ) name change but it isn't that easy.Basically although the seats are reserved & paid for it is regarded as a new booking.I had paid a basic price of £152 plus add ons but because the cost of the flight on the day of change was £234 I was charged an additional £82 & £35 each way Admin charge. To make this change I had to pay an extra £154.This to me is scandalous, the Airline advertise the fact that flights can be changed but not the costs involved.Apparently this is common with most "low cost ha ha!" airlines. Also be aware that if you do book flights don't reserve seats or check in online until the last minute because if you do want to make changes it is impossible if this has been done, even if you are prepared to pay.Needless to say I will be reporting t Trading Standards (after my flights) & urge others that have been in this situ to do the same.I think the someone:money: needs to intervene these Airlines are taking the mickey:mad:

You booked cheap flights with a budget airline. Therefore you get service commensurate with the price you paid. You could have chosen to fly with a full service higher cost airline, where you would have received better aftersales care.

I believe one reason they charge extra for changing names on the booking to dissuade people booking seats early for a low cost, then selling then on later.

As much as I generally hate the 'it's your fault for using a cheap service' type of comment, I have to agree with ThumbRemote here.

As they say. 'you cannot have your cake and eat it'.
  • Yes, it is common with low cost airlines. Most of the full service airlines would not let you make the change at all, you would have to buy a completely new ticket.

Doesn't seem so bad when you think about it that way?

I would hate to work for trading standards. The amount of ridiculous things that get reported to them must be irritating

The standard response they give to idiotic complaints. They won't crack down on this practice at all

At last someone has the foresight, courage and fortitude to report this reprehensible and shameful practice to the authorities.

    We've waited so long.
  • Who do you report trading standards too?

I agree this is worth a vent and I agree something should be done about it to reflect more the actual true cost to the airline.

But I don't think it's a trading standards issue, more an issue for those who looked into the credit card/debit card surcharges.

I agree with Thumbremote though, that it is just one of the pitfalls of booking a cheap flight (although they aren't exactly cheap nowadays anyway) and it's all the budget airlines, not just Jet2.

There also has to be something in place, to stop people booking lots of tickets for say 33% - 50% of the price they will eventually be at, knowing that even if they change details, they will still save lots, than if they booked them when they have everything confirmed.
