Item listed for UK only, but won by overseas bidder

Hello

I have read a few of the threads on similar matters, but am hoping for some guidance.

Item was listed as UK only, and only UK postage option was given.

However, it has been won by someone whose postal address is in Holland. The item has sold for just under £200.

I am reluctantly happy to send it if I have to - do I have to?

If I do, can anyone recommend secure ways to send to Holland that they won't be able to claim "lost in transit" if it hasn't been?

Thank you so much

Murtle

For listings to be UK only, you need to set up your selling preferences to exclude certain countries (ie all those you don't want to ship to) and also to block buyers who have a primary address as those countries.

If you haven't done those, then leaving the postage blank will allow international customers to buy.

What size, value and weight will the item be once packaged?

Have they paid? I'd ask them if they realised it was a UK auction, then ask if they'd like you to get a quote for international postage.

Get a quote from an international courier that has tracking, with insurance covering £200, then send an invoice to the buyer with the new postage.

Or perhaps they want it delivered somewhere in the UK?

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

I use transglobalexpress, not the cheapest, but for me the most reliable.

For £200 I'd want to honour the sale. Bird in the hand and all that. For that money it would be worth sourcing a good courier with full insurance and tracking. Maybe for that money I wouldn't take a trip to Holland myself, but given that I live a £20 train trip away from Gatwick, and airfares to the continent are pretty cheap, for a bit more I would treat myself to a little holiday in order to deliver it...!

    (Being slightly facetious there, but...!)

I doubt very much overseas buyers are more likely than UK buyers to complain of loss fraudulently, although there are genuine losses.

for items over £150 tracking alone is not enough, you need a signature as well, the cheapest I found was either using a DHL service point, such a one in WHsmiths or one of the courier services such as pacelmoney, if the latter make sure to choose the courier that offers both tracking and sig, and both options you will need to pay for extra insurance.
  • Even for uk only you need to select no international postage. However, if you edit the item, you will need to reselect no international postage as it reselects itself for some reason.

This was a bug which has been fixed.

As I state above, you need to exclude countries and block buyers with addresses in those countries, it is NOT enough to deselect international postage. This allows international buyers to buy and ask for an invoice, or worse still, it can allow them to buy and pay UK rates.
