MET Parking Services PCN

Hi,

I received a parking ticket from MET Parking Services as I parked in another space at my building. I own a parking space but as someone else had parked in my space I parked in the next space with a note on my windscreen asking the owner to call me if they needed me to move my car. I also spoke to the building manager and they advised me that they would leave a note for the person in my space and that I should move my car to a particular space but that I would not be ticketed as all tickets have to go through him first. I did not get a chance to move my car and as such the owner of the space I was in requested for me to be ticketed (without calling me) and the building manager authorised it without coming to me first.

Is it worth me appealing or will they just reject it as I had been given advice to move and I didn't? I am new to my building and also don't want any problems there.

Thanks in advance

Not worth appealing, they'll more than likely reject it anyway.

Legally, the landowner (note this is NOT MET) is entitled to damages resulting from your parking.

    Which is zero.

You legally owe the landowner nothing. You most definitely owe MET nothing either.

Ignore their stupid letters, which will threaten all sorts of legal action which will not be forthcoming, as MET have never taken anyone to court before over parking issues - as they know they'd lose.

Eventually they will give up and go away.

  • Thanks for the advice. I really want to ignore it but now I'm worried the threatening letters will come to my parents address which is where the vehicle is registered. I don't want to give my parents hassle either. Don't want to change the registered address since I'm only living there temporarily.

Do they open your post for you? (Unless the car's registered to your parents, that is.) If not, then there's no reason for them to be hassled.

    OK, here's a possible alternative:

Appeal the ticket, using your current address. They will decline your appeal and then hassle you for money/court threats/etc. except they will write to YOUR address. You can then ignore at your leisure.

If you do decide to do this (Slithy Tove's question above would be more preferable), but if you do, keep it simple and very very vague:

    "Dear Sir/Madam,

The enclosed invoice (photocopy enclosed) was attached to my vehicle. I'm not sure what it's for. Could you let me know?"

  • The car is registered to me and no they don't usually open my mail but anything with threatening wording on the envelope might persuade them to.

I'm liking the alternative suggestion and might give that a try, thanks!

There is nothing threatening on the envelope. I have had several from them!! It is no more threatening than an envelope containing your credit card statement.
Thank you for reading this message.
  • Hi

Just need clarification on the above.

On 26th Sept 2012 I had tickets for the WBA v Liverpool game & was advised to park in the McDonalds opposite the ground for £5.00.

On arrival, my husband went up to a guy in the car park, who was wearing a hi-vis jacket with Mcdonalds on it with a clip board. My husband asked him if we could park there during the match & he said yes for £5.00, which my husband gave to him & he wrote our vehicle registration down (we presume).

8 days later I have received a PCN from the Met Parking Services stating I overstayed (which in theory I did) & I need to pay £50.00 within 14 days.

I have gone through various forums that state ignore it, but as I managed to get my credit rating back up to 100% I don't want to jeopardize it.

    Please help!!! Thanks Lisa

You can safely ignore. For your credit rating to be damaged the case would have to go to court, you lose and THEN you fail to pay whatever the judge orders within 28 days. MET have stated in the Sunday Times that they never take anyone to court, so you can stop worrying.
What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?
  • Thank you for your quick response much appreciated.
