Huge Problem Coming My Way - Help Needed
Options
Hi
We moved into a new build last May. The builder told us that they would advise the electricity and gas company of the final metre reading.
Since then we have not had a bill or any correspondance from the supplier. I have heard that builders make a common mistake by telling utility companies the plot number rather than a house number and that this causes confusion over billing etc.
I am concerned that we will get hit with a big bill for this period. Is there anyway of avoiding it - should I just keep quiet and hope they never notice?

you can keep quiet, you'll just have a problem if you ever try to sell the house0

It's also possible the utility company are issuing bills but they aren't reaching you because they are being sent to a plot number and the royal mail don't know where to redirect them. Unless you could demonstrate you had made reasonable efforts to contact your supplier, it's unlikely you could get any written off and could have a large repayment.
It's fairly easy to find out who your supplier is, contact your local MPAS service for electricity and your gas pipeline company (should be on your meter) to find your gas supplier. Make sure you have the meter serial numbers handy when you call.0
