PPI - who to write to?

Sorry to be so thick about this - I have read all the guides on Martin Lewis's website and I'm still not clear.

I want to have a go at reclaiming PPI for our two previous mortgages. One with Nationwide and one with Santander. However, we were sold these mortgages through a broker - do I write to the broker for the details or to the mortgage co? Once I have the details, do I write to the broker or the mortgage co? Thanks in advance.

Always the seller/ provider of the advice, in your case the broker is responsible.

    Why do you need details?

    You complain to the broker

However, you need to be aware of a number of issues.
1 - The FSCS only upheld 5% of complaints against mortgage advisers on cases they deal with
2 - The FOS reported that just 0.2% of complaints via them were advised cases. The PPI issue is not seen as an adviser problem
3 - MPPI has the lower volume of complaints and the lowest uphold ratio of any type of PPI.

Brokers typically have much better audit trails and MPPI is considered the one PPI that is worth having. Its mainly single premium MPPI that is considered bad. Monthly premium is considered good. Brokers will reject verbal allegations you cannot prove and if it is prior to 2005, then the majority wont even consider your complaint as it is pre regulation.
