how long before i can reclaim money

Hi all
in 2002 we changed our electric supplier to Manweb, the people we changed from have never claimed their last payment and now my account shows that I am over £700 in credit.
how long does the old company have to claim their cash ?
aslo do I have the right to claim it back?

    Welcome to the forum.

I don't really understand your post.

Are you saying that your old account(which you closed in 2002) is £700 in credit, and you haven't claimed, or been paid, a refund?

If that is so; how does you see that you are £700 in credit?
  • Hi Cardew
    thanks for the welcome
between 2001 & 2002 we were under a supplier for our electric the charge for that year was £776.00 which was paid by prepayment meter. ( this amount fluctuates between £600 & £700) on the paperwork. We then changed back to manweb and since then a credit is still shown on our Bill for £745.No one has claimed this money for that period so for the last 5-6 years it has sat in Manwebs account. Can you give us any info on what we can do.

Sorry, hadn't appreciated it was a pre-payment account.

There are some Utility company employees who contribute to this forum and they might be able to advise on this one.
  • its my fault as I forot to mention it lol

Do you mean you were using the wrong payment card, so the payments were going to Manweb instead of the other company while you were with them for a year?
  • Hi Tripled
    The answer is No
we used the correct payments card, apparently the payment went to Manweb and the other company should have claimed the money from them but never did. This is the reason manweb still show my account in credit for the amount.

If the other company hasn't claimed it then surely you must owe them £700 still?
  • HI Stewie
how can I owe them anything when I have prepaid for all I have used , I cannot force them to claim their money lol I just hate to think of MAnweb earning all that interest for nothing when I could be in my account.

You seem to be mis-understanding his point.

Your on a Pre-Payment meter but your payments when you make them are registerring against your old supplier. Obviously your on a PrePayment meter so you need to pay for what you use. But your new supplier has had no payments at all - As you said there sitting in Manwebs account.

Your argument is flawed - You pay for what you use - Why should you be £700 in credit?

Your new supplier whoever they are need to raise a MisDirected Payments claim against manweb to get those payments put onto your new account with them.

Otherwise as it stands at the moment you owe your new supplier £700 because technically you have not paid them anything.

How do you know you have this amount of credit anyways? Have you had a statement of some sort or is it showing on your meter? If its the latter are you sure its not a debt?

Thanks for trying to clear that up Gal.

Alsparker is the credit you're on about shown on your latest statement and has been ever since you switched back to Manweb? Also which company did you move to in 2001/2 as by the sounds of it they never received any of your payments.
