Direct Debit

Hi all,
I bank with Barclays and have a direct debit due out on the 28th.
I work for a small business and my wages are transferred manually by the boss every Monday morning (27th) so on Monday my wages will be in the account to cover the direct debit due out on the Tuesday.
I have Just realised that it's a Bank Holiday and I'm now panicking.
Does anyone know if Barclays will take the direct debit out early ( tomorrow) because it's the bank holiday????
Thanks in advance

As your direct debits are due out on the 28th which is a Tuesday, I imagine they will go out on the 28th as normal.
You could always give them a call to see if this will be the case, I also would have thought that your boss would pay you early with it being a bank holiday on Monday.Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. The present is the crossroads of both. :cool:0 -
Hi Thanks for the reply, because it's a small business the boss manually transfers the wages himself and unfortunately we never get paid early due to bank holidays, it would be great if he did though then I wouldn't be stressing over this direct debit!
I've got a feeling that the bank will take it tomorrow, Barclays have a habit of taking direct debits due on a Monday out on a Saturday and with it being a bank holiday I think this is what they will do......
which will send me overdrawn and I have no overdraft....... Great!
I will give them a call and make a mental note to check the calender regularly for bank holidays!Quit Day - 8th July 2009.0 -

Best to not schedule your incoming and outgoing payments so close together.
Need to have at least three days (preferable more) between them, just for situations like this.0 -

Its sound advice, however Hooloovoo not everyone is able to do this.
I personally do this myself that way I know all payments will be covered regardless.Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. The present is the crossroads of both. :cool:0 -
In an ideal world that would be the best way to do it, but when you have gone from a full time good paying job to being made redundant and taking part time work to stay off the dole queue just to pay your bills and provide for your family, living hand to mouth is our only way at the moment.Quit Day - 8th July 2009.0

Its very understandable and I would do the same in your situation.Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. The present is the crossroads of both. :cool:0 -

Barclays will start the process of collection (earmarking) for the DD Friday evening.
Options;
1.Cancel the DD now so you don't get stung by bank charges, then pay manually. Set it back up afterwards.
2.Ask your bank now for a temporary Overdraft/increase O/D to cover the DD going out.
3.Put enough funds to cover the DD into the account by close of business Friday.
4.Ask your boss to do the transfer Friday?0
