Hi Guys,
I received a letter today from B/Card refusing my claim on the grounds that it was a postal application and that ''At the point of applying for PPI, as no advice was given the process required you to select the specific type of cover required.''.
I know this is a standard letter, as a self employed friend received the same response to his.....
Given this info, is there any point in going through the Ombudsman?
I wouldn't want to waste his time when there are so many cases out there

depends on what your reason for complaint is.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -

Hi Dunstonh,
The reason was that the cover was not required due to employee benefits; sickness cover, redundancy packages if it came to it, etc.
The letter also states that they consider this their final response.
I thought it was done by phone, but, as stated, they say it was postal.

Do expect a long wait, though.
Hi Moneyineptitude,
I think it's valid, but I would
My concern is that I would be wasting their time as Barclaycard have already stated that, as far as they are concerned, the case is closed. I wouldn't want to tie up the ombudsman when he could be dealing with someone more deserving.

That is a commendable attitude however speaking as a consumer, if Barclaycard have missold and you do not persue it then they have gotten away with misselling.
I understand how you feel but I think it is youre duty to refer it to the ombudsman and let them make the decision.
I *may have to refer some of my claims to the FOS and I certainly wont be blaming other consumers if I have a long wait. I blame the financial industry for misselling in the first place.
Cheers

Thing is Mu, love the name btw, KLF were excellent in their day, B/card have stated it was a postal application and that I had ticked it, so if that is the case, would there be any point in pursuing it anyway??Life is now good

Barclays is correct in that if it was a postal application then you were not advised.
For a complaint to be upheld it would be necessary to show that you were misled by Barclays into taking out the policy. At present, you have given no reason to suppose that they did and if the policy was inappropriate, what evidence you have given points not to a missale that is their fault but to a mispurchase which is yours.0 -

I think you're right Magpie, although if I'd known then what I know now....
I'll knock this one on the head
Thanks for all the advice
