I was certainly paid in the past beyond the cert dates, DWP just contacted me to make sure I got a new cert in within so many days or it would then stop. Can't remember how many days of grace period there was but I used it several times.

That's because they are supposed to extend the med cert to your normal fortnightly pay day.

If it expires on 4th September but your pay day is due to be 10th September they are supposed to extend it to the 10th September. Not all the BDCs will do this though. Strictly speaking if they don't do it and it causes you a delay in payment because for example --your doctor won't issue another until the old one has expired and then getting an appointment and then sending it in takes another 8 days for them to receive it at BDC and then a further 4 days to issue the payment into your account-- Then you could lodge a complaint that the BDC should -according to their guidance- have extended the med cert to your following payday, thus they ultimately caused you a delay in payment by not doing it as they were supposed to.

To answer your question the maximum days grace would be 13 days.
