i agree with the others...it best to get yourself a sim card for international calls while your out there (your gonna venture where the locals shop anyway)the sim is more than often free as your just paying the credit you have on it..expect to pay a maximum of £10. it then works out so cheap for you to call out and for people calling you internationally.0

defo get a local card (worth paying the money to unlock your phone). Mobile companies take the pi$$ with their roaming charges0

one thing to check is if a different network sim will work in your handset, majority esp pay as you go are lockedthings arent the way they were before, you wouldnt even recognise me anymore- not that you knew me back thenMercilessKiller wrote: »BH is my best mate too, its ok

I have a cunning plan, I think!
I have half a dozen virgin sim cards with £5 free credit which are brand new and unused, and I plan to take with me and use when making a few calls back to the UK from an old phone. How does that sound?

the problem with that is in europe you'd only have 5 minutes talk time on each sim and even less at other locations  . I'd invest in a local sim and then use the virgin sims in the uk. 12 sims with £5, that's £60 worth of credit that you won't have to spend on top ups in the uk but will only buy you less than one hour of talk time abroad.
With that amount of credit it might be worth setting up your own premium number to turn the credit into cash.0
