CC declined but excellent credit rating

Hi,

Yesterday I applied for a CC with natwest Mypoints, but got declined. I then checked my credit rating on Experian and it is excellent at 973 with no negatives against my name. I am a little confused as to why I would be declined a CC when my credit rating is so good.
I just called Natwest and they have said I was declined due to a poor credit score, I'm now even more confused as EXperian is saying my credit rating is 973, but Natwest is saying I have a poor credit score.
Any ideas what is going on here? Any help would be appreciated.

Firstly, ignore your credit score and see what is on your credit report from both Equifax and Experian - some stuff may be on one and not the other, and vice-versa.

Maybe something you 'forgot' was on your report...

Experian don't lend money so your score is irrelevant.

    Things to consider:

Are you on the electoral role?
    Do you have any defaults?
Do you owe £xx amount on another card(s) loan(s) already?

    That kind of thing really.

Eurgh.. Experian, a company with no use and fund a well known debt collection agency. Wouldn't be surprised if it's all a ploy to gather everyone's information so they can sell it on and make up debts.

OP, could have been declined for a number of reaons, NatWest calculate their own credit score, just because you where declined by NatWest, doesn't mean others will decline you.

Keep on applying until you get accepted :D .. Start with the mainstream then onto Aqua and Vanquis.

NOOOO! Don't do that, the more applications you make, the more searches will appear on your file, which will make you appear desperate for credit to lenders, reducing your chance of acceptance.
