How long does it take to close LTSB Duo Avios credit card?

I rang Lloyds TSB credit card customer services Monday afternoon.

Asked them to close my Duo Avios credit card account which they did. But as of Thursday, it's still showing on my internet banking and with my full credit limit available to spend?

Does it normally take this long or do I need to call them again? Other credit card accounts that I have closed in the past usually disappeared/zeroed limit as soon as I had hung up the phone.

  • Nothing to do with CRAs. Think it might take a couple of days but if it's still there tomorrow, I'd just give them a ring or alternatively just send them a message through online banking - that way you'll at least get written confirmation that your request has been dealt with.

The account will usually be marked as closed within a couple of days providing they can see no pending payments yet to be claimed by a retailer.
Personally I would have expected it to be closed by now, though access to an online account is different, that will probably still be available so you can see transcations, print statements etc though it should state 'Balance Not Available' if closed.

It certainly has nothing to do with the CRA's at this stage except to say they will mark it as 'settled' when advised to do so by Lloyds, but that can take up to two months.

I use to have a Advance credit card with Lloyds, switched to the Avios. The advance still shows on my internet banking but just has a zero credit limit and is officially settled with CRA's. Apparently it's left online for six months so that you can check back statements it's now been 18months.. It is annoying. Let me know if it drops of will be kicking some !!! if it does :-)
Can I find out my credit score?
You do not have a single credit score or rating. Different organisations take different information into account when working out your credit score and may have different scores for different products. (Kindly from Experian)

Thanks all. Yes, I know it's nothing to do with CRA's, so I ignored that comment.

Still says: Available credit:£7,500.00. I'll ring them tomorrow if still showing. They did say I should get a letter in about 3 days too.

BTW, I didn't know LTSB had a secure messaging facility?
  • Letter from Lloyds TSB Card Services:
If appropriate, please be aware that after we close your account the details of the account will appear on your Internet Banking for up to 6 months from when it was last active.

That answers my question then.

Still, odd it shows I still have available credit to spend. However, the letter does mention that they will cancel any regular payments and asks me to contact the retailers to inform them about this. But if any regular payment does come through on my account, I should contact LTSB if I don't want this and they will give me a full refund in two working days.

Balance is already £0 and there are no regular payments, so why can't closed = closed??? Never mind. Purely an administrative issue now. Won't be losing any sleep over this.
  • I closed my Lloyds card in Jan 2012 and it is still appearing through online banking.
