Any eligible promotions I could use? Train - London to Carlisle

Hi there people!

I've scoured the tips on how to get reduced train ticket prices, but given the late notice for this particular trip, I'm wondering if any of you kind MSE'ers might be able to help me find a cheaper way of doing this journey. Myself and my partner have to be in Carlisle (she'll be travelling on Thursday 6th September, I'll be travelling in the early evening of Friday 7th) and come back on Sunday 9th. I think I'm right in saying that there's no railcards that would help out for this journey, and I've tried splitting the journey into parts, but I'm still struggling to get it under £100 (for my journey anyway!). Has anyone got any tips?

Cheers,

John

BTW: I've seen that there are some vouchers in this week's Telegraph, so that's at least £8 towards it!

  • Try splitting at Manchester Pic and using Advance singles, but give yourself plenty of time to make your connections.

Another way is use Advanced/More options on your internet fare search engine and put 'via Newcastle' this will give a journey; London Kings Cross to Carlisle changing at Newcastle bit long but could be cheaper.

Edit: just looked and there's no Advanced tickets for Sunday 9th via Newcastle but you could mix and match the journey.
