Energy Tarriff Tie-Ins

Hi folks,

Currently on an Online Fixed Price deal with Scottish Power unti March next year. Was considering moving to the EDF tariff that Martin keeps promoting and was willing to pay the exit / tie-in fees to Scottish Power to leave them, in lieu of future savings with EDF.

However upon doing a comparison I also saw SP have a fixed deal until October 2013 that would also save me money.

My question - if switching to another SP tariff from my current one, would I still have to pay the cancellation / tie-in fees for my current tariff or would they waive those for an internal move?

What a coincidence you asking this question.I have just signed up for the very same deal from a current tariff that had penalties if you leave early.

The very helpful lady on the phone said categorically that there would be no charge if you switch to one of their tariffs even from a fixed rate with still time to go on it.

She also stated that there is something of a rush on that tariff now that it is known that the next round of increases is on it's way.I would have preferred to have waited until the end of next month to change mine but it is really too good a rate to risk waiting.Shwe thinks it may well close soon, once they have enough people sign up to it.

    I`ll second that.
I was told that you can switch tariffs with SP anytime with no penalties.
These only apply if you switch providers.

My SP OES14 comes to an end at the end of this month but I changed to Nov 2013 fixed last week because this tariff could be pulled at any minute.
  • Thanks guys...

So presumably if you are on a SP fixed tariff with a tie in but want to leave, all you need to do is switch to another SP tariff without a tie-in and then once you're on that, switch again to the other provider?

Exactly, and if you log-in to your SP account and click on "change my service" you can do it NOW.

That is reason I switched to the fixed Nov. 2013, if anything better comes along, I`ll be off like a shot with no penalties.
