Well i'll try to cut a long story short. i opened an account with rbs on the form it asked wether i wanted to add a savings account were they would take £100 from current acc and put it into savings so i agreed. Iam in the army and they required me to have a card that has chip and pin which rbs didnt offer at that stage so i stopped my pay going into rbs and into my new abbey. now obviously because i was not getting paid into my rbs there was no money for them to transfer into my savings. so i went to afghanistan and when i came back i had a big bill of charges for not having money in my account to transfer i refused to pay it because i thought it was unfair so they forced me by putting me on dept builders which resulted in a default on my credit report.
1. Are they allowed to do that
2. Can i claim back the money i have paid them
3.Can i get the default cleared if it is found to be unfair
thanks in advanced people.

1. Yes. You set up a standing order. It was your responsibility to cancel it. You didn't, and this triggered the charges.
2. As its gone to debt collectors, that ship has probably sailed. You tend to find that asking nicely on a first offence, throwing in a line about Queen and country and being polite would usually get charges refunded. Digging your heals in and refusing to pay wont get them to waive charges. No harm in asking though.
3. Yes. But it would appear to reflect the facts.0 -
From your message, they appeared to have just carried out your instructions. You didn't have any money in there when the instructions were carried out, so incurred charges.
If you had apologised and told them about you forgetting and not being in the country, they would have probably squashed all charges, but it might be too late now.0 -
if you don't have any joy, try to drum up some press about your situation, might have some luck that way0
