Been advised today that the meeting is now off as they need to do some more investigation first!!!

Don't take my word for it, but that could be good. Obviously something serious has been said about you. I would expect that before talking to you the investigating officer would do some initial enquires, and if those are turning up inconclusive or contradictory, then they would tend to dig around a bit more before deciding whether to continue. Being suspended doesn't mean that you have done something or that they have decided you have...

Of course, alternatively, they could have found lots more to investigate because there is more to find, but I am taking you at your word that you haven't done anything and don't know what they could be investigating...

I've certainly not done or said anything. I always stick to the rules etc.

Never being in this position at all before I find it very uncomfortable.

In that case hope that this is a good sign that whatever has happened is not being supported by the investigation.

Dave, I am often called on to be the investigating officer and if you have done nothing wrong, this will come out. The fact that the investigating officer is taking extra time usually means that the accusation has been called into question and that some contradictory views require investigating, Not always of course as it could just be they have come across some additional wrong doing, but this is more unusual.
