does my credit score affect my husband applying for a mortgage

Options
Hello

I dont have a great credit score, but it is improving slowly.
My husband's credit score is showing as excellent and shortly he is going to apply for a self build mortgage just in his name. He has a deposit of £130,000
Will my credit score affect his ability to apply for a mortgage if we have a bank account in a joint name ?

Do you currently have debt issues, or is your credit history of a historic nature?

do his credit files show he has a financial association with you?
if yes then your situation will affect him
if not then it will not affect him

Can you be specific as to why you have a low credit score?

As I said on your earlier thread https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4136447 Remember that your credit score is a fiction. No lender ever takes a blind bit of notice of the score - what they are interested in is the information behind the score and each one calculates its own score according to its own set of rules. The credit score you pay for is just a guess at how a lender might score you. It has no more weight than that.

  • My credit score is low due to a default which is very old and some missed payments. we are financially associated by a joint account which we use to pay the bills.

If your default was due to BG not doing their stuff properly, perhaps you should challenge it. Defaults from 2010 is too recent. Close the joint account.
