ASDA double charged

I was in store, and processed through the self checkout, but when it came to paying the machine processed the card but then the system failed. The signature portion was not working.
They called me over to the extra help portion and put every thing through again, and when I expressed my concerns that it had looked like the payment was processed already, they assured me it had not been taken.
But low and behold, I have checked the statement and the ASDA payment has been taken twice.
One shows on the date I made the purchase, the other on 01/01/0001? So unless I have got myself a DeLorean I can't see that being valid.
In this scenario, what is the recourse?

Take your bank statement and details to the CS desk and get the second payment back.0

Take your delorean even further back in time and tell yourself not to shop at asda on the date of purchase. Problem solved.
In all seriousness, pop down to Asda (if it is local) with a copy of your statement and talk to customer services first off. If they do not help I'd suggest you put it in writing to the Asda head office. It appears to be a simple technical error that they should refund without much fuss.
Keep your original statement, get a copy to share with Asda etc.Thinking critically since 1996....0 -
In my experience ASDA are a waste of time, I would just tell your bank, and they will do a chargeback within 3 days. no need to go anywere and call them on the phone.0

I suspect the 'wrong charge' will drop off automatically in 2 or 3 days. The money has not actually been 'taken' it's been 'reserved'. There's no end of posts about this on MSE.0

I had this happen to me too on the 23 August, seems to be a bug in the system on self scan.0
