MBNA Fluid card application

If of interest,i went through the online process of applying for this card in the belief that i would be told if my application was likely to be accepted or not, thus giving me the option to proceed or cancel before my credit rating was affected (as promised within the Fluid card site). In the event, this process was overridden and i actually ended up applying for the card by default. I have no idea why it happened,if i did something wrong or did not do something i should have done. I thought this note may help others who follow the same process and post this as a warning to proceed with care. You may end up, inadvertently, with a worse credit rating than before you started if your query turns out to be an actual application and is refused. My story ends well though because a phone call today by me to Fluid Card (MBNA by any other name)confirmed that my application was successful and that i was given a large credit limit which more than covers my intended balance transfer. Obviously i have a good credit rating as the unintended application only took overnight for a decision.
Incidentally, balance transfers from any other MBNA card are not permitted and the credit limit will not be given until after a successful application. The big attraction for me was the small 1.5% balance transfer fee and the 15 months interest free credit.

Just gone through a dummy 1st page application, using £2K as my salary and 3 months at current address and got the following message...
Good news, it looks like you have a good chance of being accepted for the fluid credit card.

Please fill in the details on the next page to complete your application. We should be able to give you an instant decision.
Acceptance for the fluid credit card is not guaranteed and will depend on the information you submit at the next stage of your application.
So it looks like this 'apply with confidence' gimmick is just that...a gimmick?

Would you rather the front page said, after putting in the salary etc 'Bad news we're afraid, you might not be able to get a card - but carry on for the next ten minutes filling in this form anyway and give us a laugh in the procces'?

I'm sure it's just trying to be a friendly website.

Once you get to their hadron collider / quantum physics / stephen hawkings credit scoring system you wont be thinking the same thing I guess.

Isn't it trying the basic criteria first, such as time at present address and salary to weed out the ones they know will fail, saving a credit marker?

More than likely, thats a good idea - however then you'll get to the full fat credit check and then fail ;)
