From IB to ESA

I (or rather my husband) have filled out the ESA form and sent it back (had to be back by July 23rd - sent July 10th) what happens now? The letter said something about 3 months to a decision (and still a bit :mad::mad: as I was told I would never be assessed for DLA or IB again)

Is your husband still receiving his IB? They'll make a decision on his eligibility to ESA and section him in support or WRAG group if he is eligible. If they decide that he isn't eligible under the criteria, they will write to you and inform you of this. In essence, there is a possibility that he will lose his IB (which should become ESA) if they decide not to award ESA.
  • Everyone is being moved from Incapacity benefit to ESA, because goverment are getting rid of Incapacity benefit. This should however not affect your DLA, as this is serparate and if you have been awarded indenfinatly i doubt you will be reasseded. Once they have assessed your ESA claim they may decide to call you in for a medical to assess your medical condition though you may not be assessed and just awareded ESA. It is likely you may have to go for a medical assessment this is the goverments way of trying to get people off the sick. If you need any further support with this you can always visit your local Citizen advice bureau for further help.

Well DLA is being phased out for PIP - the disability and dosh forum should help with info on this.

And numerous claimants come to the forum saying they've been given an indefinate award and expect it to be an entire lifetime's duration, only to be told it just means there's no current plans to reassess and this can be subject to change.

If you are not aged over 65(?), you will be reassessed for PIP, nomatter what your existing DLA award is.
This may vary from them simply seeing on the papers if you're clearly entitled, and moving you over, to sending you for a medical assessment.

Getting to the stage of thinking "if I kill myself, will that help?" it would be easy enough to do - a packet of dry roasted peanuts (well one actually) will do the trick
