Just about fed up with Avira

Don't get me wrong, it's a fine AV program
On the Windows 7 x64 laptop, I can't get rid of the annoying nag screen. I can just about live with that - not a problem on XP
<Flame on>But now on both laptop and desktop there is a slide-in asking about anti-phishing and asking if I'm interested yes/no. Closing using the X in the corner works fine. But it comes back later. Hitting No produces a "thank you" pop-up, but the damn slide-in leaves rubbish behind - on top of all windows - that you can't get rid of. The only cure is log out and back in to windows.
And the damn thing comes back!<flame off>
Avast comes recommended on here , so I'll give that a shot.
I'm off to look for an Avira removal tool.

Do be careful of any bundled Toolbars with Avast. CNet are infamous.0

You can get rid of it by clicking a link in the window that is left - mine could not show the web page it was supposed to go to, and I think I clicked the -retry or diagnose.
Yes it is a complete pain in the bum.0 -
I'd just stick on Microsoft Security Essentials, that's what I stuck on my x64 Acer laptop the second I got it up and running.0

Thanks, it's every other program that does this now!
Google Chrome not installed and I Elected for a custom install of Avast and I didn't install Avast remote access, Avast gadget and Avast Browser protection (web reputation thingy). I don't think I need any of those.
In other words plain vanilla Avast free.
Windows 7 lappy done and XP desktop to do - see if any problems arise on the lappy first.

I was actually going to start exactly the same thread on another forum. Fed up with the pop up messages on Avira like you , AVG takes 2-3 hrs to scan the desktop so will have a look at Avast and thanks for the hint about custom install. Just need to sort wuauclt.exe after that .....0

Info from Avira Forum to stop the popup.
To delete this possibly broken, local saved message from your computer you have to perform the following steps:
First we have to be sure that the Windows Folder and Search Option settings are correct:
click on Start -> Control Panel -> Folder and Search Options -> Tab View -> "show hidden files and folders" -> OK
- open the following folder with your Windows Explorer:
Windows XP:
C:\documents and settings\All Users\Application Data\Avira\AntiVir Desktop\IPM
Windows Vista / Windows 7:
C:\ProgramData\Avira\AntiVir Desktop\IPM
- delete the content of this folder (not the folder itself)
- close the Windows Explorer
- change your Windows Folder and Search Options back to standard configuration if you want so
- restart your computer0 -
@ aerostar, thanks for the info, but I've just changed my XP machine to Avast as well.
Dave, jumping in with both feet.0 -
I just removed Avira and installed MSE instead - bloody windows popping up (asking if I was excited about something or other) every hour or so. Err... no thanks, delete/delete all, grrrr a bit/lot.... much later... add/remove programs, job done.0
