How can you tell which way the garden is facing by looking at the rightmove maps or google maps??

There's a compass on the top left corner when you look at the Street View map.

That was my last house. It's OK, but if you have other buildings alongside, or trees, as many people do, then they are likely to rob evening sunshine to some extent and you will certainly lose it early from any patio close to the rear of your property.

As others have pointed out, it's not just the aspect, but the lie of the land and surrounding buildings/trees which determine the amount of sunshine a garden receives.

The house I live in now has nothing between it and the sun for 95% of the time it's visible, which isn't very much at the moment!
That sounds great, and it is from an energy saving point of view, but remember that not all plants like full sun and neither do some people.
